Primary 2 is a foundational year. Numbers get bigger, multiplication and division take shape, and children meet fractions for the first time. What worked in Primary 1 — memorising steps and copying methods — stops being enough. Many word problems can be solved with model drawing, once children know the difference between a part-whole model and a comparison model. Primary 2 is where that foundation is built for everything that follows.
If your child is struggling with word problems or only gets questions right when they look like the ones they've seen before, it's not because they can't do math. It's because no one has taught them why the math works.
Primary 2 is where children start building the problem-solving habits they will use for the rest of their primary years. We teach simple heuristics first, so they have something solid to build on in the years ahead:
Primary 2 is the first time children meet fractions. Many students struggle with fractions all the way to Primary 6 because their early foundation was never built properly. We build that understanding now, so it can carry them through the years ahead.

OUR TEACHING METHOD
Every Ms Tabby's Math lesson follows a proven four-step structure that builds deep mathematical understanding. Developed by our founder with over 19 years of classroom experience.
Logic — Every lesson begins with conceptual understanding. We use bar models, visual tools, and concrete examples so your child understands WHY a method works.
In practice: Before teaching any procedure, we ask: Does this make sense to you?
Equation — Once the logic is understood, students learn to express it mathematically. From number sentences in P1 to algebraic expressions in P6, we build equation fluency.
Application — Scaffolded practice moves from guided to independent. Carefully sequenced questions that increase in difficulty.
Patterns — The highest level of mathematical thinking: recognising patterns across topics. Essential for PSLE success.
